Trade and Technical Equipment for Life Skills

“Internat Saint Michel” on the island of Espirito Santo in Vanuatu, is a technical high school serving ‘ni-Vanuatu’ in the northern part of the country. In a spirit of cooperation an international community of four Brothers – two from Vanuatu, one French and one Bougainvillian carry on this Marist work with their lay partners.

Brother Finan from Bougainville has taken on the task of teaching industrial subjects at ‘Santo’. Australian Marists and the Marist Bureau of Solidarity in Rome have been able to assist this school in the past with building developments.

What is needed...
  • Tools and Equipment for the teaching of technical subjects.
  • Tool Kits, Machinery, Sewing Machines and Hospitality equipment.

Both boys and girls will benefit by an increase in the capacity of the school to prepare its students for ‘life skills’. In a competitive educational system, not all the students will be granted places in institutes of higher learning. Many will return to their villages where the hope is that they will be able to put to use functional and practical skills learnt while at school.

What you can do...

About $200 would provide a simple carpentry or mechanics tool kit. Similar amounts would purchase a treadle sewing machine or a stove. This equipment will help set up a mechanical and woodwork workshop and further develop a home skills and hospitality program.
